Brandt Tuning Garage Racer – 3-Link Hobby Mod

We started the Hobby Mod project in order to build a new budget class for Fairbury American Legion Speedway. We analyzed available used chassis, parts, and existing budget class rules to establish the rules for the Hobby Mod class. FALS Hobby Mods are based on standard UMP Modified rules, with additional restrictions of 6000 rpm limit, 3 link or leaf spring suspension, and limited non-rebuildable shocks.

The Brandt Tuning garage racer project’s goal was to build a Hobby Mod on a cheap budget with basic tools available to most racers. We used an older leaf spring chassis, converted to run 3-Link suspension. Transmission is a Bert, stock flywheel/bellhousing/starter, and 9″ full floater with 567 gear. Engine is 355 chevy small block, ported double hump heads, flat top pistons, Comp Cams Xtreme 4×4 X4270H Hydraulic flat tappet cam, roller rockers, Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap intake, and JDR Performance E-85 carb.
