BrandtTuning #4, is our 4th modified build as a shop. The first 3 builds were for the Fairbury Speedway Hobby Mod class. We decided with this build to move up to the top UMP Modified class, using what we’ve learned from our Hobby Mod builds and other work on UMP Modifieds. We also wanted a chassis that could leverage the LS budget engine build.
We started on #4 with a bare 2014 Buzzard chassis. The chassis was straight and a good building block for our project. We made a few changes to the chassis, most notably updating the front upper control arm mounts, the rear 4 bar mounts, and adding a pull bar mount to switch from lift arm. Battery location was moved forward and to the right for weight balancing.
We purchased a used Frankland Quick Change 4.86 rear axle complete with birdcages, which we rebuilt with new internals and bearings, and replaced a bent tube. We hung this on a 4-bar setup with a long pull bar, which completed the rear suspension.
